Hulu has confirmed rumors of a new service that will allow users to stream high definition video content on Sony’s PS3, Microsoft’s Xbox360, and Apple’s iPhone, iPad, and Televisions. Nicknamed “Hulu Plus“, the new service will cost $9.99 per month.
Some experts are skeptical about this move for Hulu as it will now place them in direct competition with other video streaming services like Netflix, last.fm, and Zune.
There is also word that Microsoft’s upcoming Kinect for Xbox 360 will allow Hulu Plus to work with the motion-sensing system that will allow users to control video.
Launch Dates
Hulu Plus will launch on the PS3 in July 2010, while the Xbox Live will carry it in early 2011. Yup, Sony’s PS3 gets it before Xbox!
Other compatible televisions will have access to Hulu Plus coming this fall.
“We’re incredibly excited to bring Hulu Plus and its amazing library of
entertainment to Xbox Live,” Microsoft said. “Hulu Plus joins our
ever-expanding entertainment offerings on Xbox 360, which currently
includes Netflix, Last.fm and Zune Video.”
