Chances are you have a lot of bookmarks. But if you are like the rest of us, your bookmark bar has become very populated over time. Suddenly what should be easy to manage becomes a hassle.

Thankfully there are some free applications and addons that will help you in this eternal struggle between you and your bookmark list. We have put together a list of 5 free bookmark managing services that are either online or an add-on extension.

Websites that manage your bookmarks

1. Linkable

Linkable is a brand new service that allows you to manage all of your bookmarks in one centralized location. You can bookmark your favorite websites with a click-able browser button. The interface allows you to create multiple categories. For example travel sites, tech sites, or entertainment. However you want to categorize your list it will be easy and flexible for you. There is also a ClutterBar which is the default location for your links to appear.

The interface is dragndrop easy. You can also share you list with your friends easily. The only downside we see is there is currently no way to import existing bookmarks from you browser. But that’s really not a big deal and since it is in Alpha Stage we might see this in future releases.

Linkable is free to use. You can sign up or try it out without even signing up here.

2. Instapaper

A simple tool that allows you to save web pages for later reading. The best part about this app is you can print your list, view it on computer, or choose to view it on your iPad, iPhone, or Kindle. It keeps a record of the greatest sites saved along with editors picks.

3. Google Bookmarks

If you are a Google power users, you might want to try Google Bookmarks (assuming you haven’t already). Google makes it easy for you to manage all of your bookmarks in one place. It’s not as fancy as some of the other tools but it gets the job done.

4. Smart Bookmarks Bar

This bookmark addon simply adds icons to your bookmark bar making it easier to navigate. It is designed to conserve space if you have a lot of bookmarks to manage. The downside is it has not been updated for Firefox 4 beta. There have been requests for this. Hopefully we will see this updated soon.

5. Xmarks Bookmark and Password Sync

If you manage multiple computers then Xmarks is essential. What this addon allows you to is sync all of your computers with your Xmarks Account. All of your passwords and bookmarks will exist across all machines thus saving you time and frustration. A lot of web users use this addon, all 21+ million of them.

This addon is available to sync multiple browsing platforms including Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari (MacOS only), and Google Chrome. Xmarks will optionally sync your open tabs too across Firefox, Chrome,
and IE.
